Congresswoman Bynum Rejects ‘Nonsense’ Budget Proposal That Harms Oregon Families

February 25, 2025 Press Release Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) released the following statement ahead of voting against H.Con.Res.14, the House Budget Proposal: “This is a nonsense proposal. At a time when the American people are struggling to make ends meet, this budget pulls the rug out from underneath them. It would decrease access to health care, food assistance programs, and other critical services that Oregon families, seniors, children, and veterans rely on. This budget hurts everyone except the ultra-wealthy. “Instead of supporting our families and our children, the plan would instead give billionaires and major corporations a significant tax cut and increase our country’s deficit by trillions. I'm voting no, because I will not support legislation that hurts our families or increases our costs. We can and we must do better.” Background The proposal would: Cut Medicaid and the ACA by nearly $1 trillion, SNAP by over $200 billion, and education and school meal programs by around $100 billion; Provide $2 trillion in tax breaks and loopholes to big corporations and increase the deficit by over $3 trillion; And seek to codify and further Elon Musk’s efforts to defund vital services for American families. ### Issues : Congress Costs & Jobs Healthcare Veterans
