Moskowitz Named to New House Select Subcommittee on January 6

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-FL-23) announced that he has been named to the House Judiciary Committee’s new subcommittee on January 6, joining just two other House Democrats and the Committee’s Ranking Member as their caucus’s voice on the panel. The appointment was made by U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-08).

The subcommittee was created last week, when House Republicans approved a resolution including it in their rules. It is “authorized and directed to conduct a full and complete investigation” of the events on January 6 and release a report by the end of the 119th Congress.

The U.S. House, however, already probed January 6 during the 117th Congress, when they released an 845-page report from the U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, investigated by members of both parties over the course of 18 months.

“In their continued campaign of distraction, my esteemed colleagues across the aisle have found a new target: the events of January 6. But make no mistake: we will not let their efforts rewrite the dark day that it was,” said Congressman Moskowitz. “I look forward to serving on this committee that can only be described as a giant waste of time and taxpayer dollars, and I hope that one day soon, we can get back to answering the American people’s call to lower costs and solve problems.”

Moskowitz is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he serves as Ranking Member of its Oversight & Intelligence Subcommittee.

Joining him on the new subcommittee are fellow Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-CA-14) and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX-30), and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD-08) will be able to participate on an ex officio basis as Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee.
