B-roll from the visit is available here and below. “Keeping health care close to home is at the center of our fight for Iowa families, and River Hills is leading the way with the kind of community-based, coordinated care model our communities need,” said Rep. Nunn . “No family should have to drive hours for a doctor’s appointment or essential care. Facilities like this bring medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services together under one roof to better serve patients where they live. The federal investments we’ve fought for, including $209 million for rural health care in Iowa, bipartisan efforts to strengthen the rural health workforce, and expanded telehealth flexibility, are helping make this kind of care possible in communities like Ottumwa.” “After a recent clinic closure in Ottumwa, we were able to hire providers from those clinics directly onto our team so families here didn’t lose access to the clinicians they trust,” said Joy Alexander, CEO of River Hills Community Health Center . “Today, patients at our new family practice clinic can typically get an appointment within a week, and our team coordinates everything from primary care and behavioral health to women’s health, cancer screenings, and the dental and pharmacy services available at our other Ottumwa locations. Federal investment in community health centers and the rural workforce makes this kind of continuity possible, and we appreciate Rep. Nunn for helping lead those and for taking the time to see that work in action.” River Hills’ new clinic provides family practice, women’s health, and behavioral health services, while dental and pharmacy services remain available through the organization’s other Ottumwa locations. As a federally qualified health center, River Hills operates through an integrated care model that connects patients with coordinated services across one provider network — helping ensure rural Iowans can access comprehensive care closer to home.
