RELEASE: Congressman Casar Demands Immediate, Independent Investigation Into ICE Shooting in Austin

Image September 20, 2026 Press Release AUSTIN , TEXAS — Following the shooting of a man by ICE, Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security demanding cooperation with an “immediate, independent investigation,” full release of any footage of the shooting, and accountability for any wrongdoing by the agent responsible. On September 20th, 2026, an ICE officer shot and wounded a man in Austin. In the letter, Congressman Casar demands ICE release to the public the complete and unedited footage related to the shooting, preserve all available evidence, and share all available evidence with local and state law enforcement, Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General (OIG), and other parties that have jurisdiction to conduct a full, independent, and transparent investigation into the shooting. Congressman Casar is also demanding DHS and ICE brief him and his Congressional colleagues by Monday, September 28th with information on whether current protocols were followed with regard to the operation itself as well as preservation of evidence and investigation. When ICE began its surge in Austin earlier this summer, Congressman Casar warned about the potential for dangerous incidents like this one. Casar is demanding ICE leave the City of Austin.
