Senator Marshall’s Patients Deserve Price Tags Act Passes Senate HELP Committee

Washington – Today, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas) released the following statement after his and Senator John Hickenlooper’s (D-Colorado) bipartisan Patients Deserve Price Tags Act passed the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) with overwhelming bipartisan support, marking a major milestone toward lowering healthcare costs for American families. The legislation requires hospitals and insurers to publicly disclose healthcare prices, giving patients the ability to compare costs before receiving care. By increasing transparency and competition, the bill will help lower healthcare costs, empower patients, and put consumers back in control of their healthcare decisions. “Patients deserve price tags, not surprise bills. This is the only bipartisan healthcare reform before Congress today that can begin lowering the cost of living immediately by bringing real competition to our healthcare system , ” said Senator Marshall. “Americans have waited far too long to know what their care will cost before they receive it, and I’m proud this commonsense legislation passed out of the HELP Committee today with overwhelming bipartisan support. It’s time to put patients back in charge – not the big hospital systems and insurance companies.” Senator Marshall thanked his bipartisan partner, Senator John Hickenlooper (D-Colorado) , for his leadership in introducing the legislation and expressed his appreciation to HELP Committee Chairman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-Louisiana) , Ranking Member Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) , and members of the committee for advancing the bill. Senator Marshall looks forward to working with his colleagues to build on this momentum and bring the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act to the Senate floor. “Right now, Americans walk into a hospital blind and walk out with a bill nobody could have predicted. That’s not a health care system — it’s a gamble,” said Senator Hickenlooper . “Our bill makes hospitals and insurers publish their prices and backs it up with real fines, not empty threats. If we’re serious about getting universal coverage and lowering costs, we start by following the money.” Click HERE or on the image above for Senator Marshall’s full remarks. ### Contact: Payton Fuller
