Congressman Cohen Announces $742,269 in NIH Grants to St. Jude and UTHSC
Image August 13, 2026 Press Release Cancer diagnostics and alcoholism research WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive three grants totaling $515,239, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive one grant of $227,030, from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) St. Jude will receive two grants from the National Cancer Institute – one for research on acute lymphoblastic leukemia and one for research on SWISNF proteins. A third grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences will support research on RNA-guided DNA transposition systems. UTHSC will receive the grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism evaluating the synergistic effects of developmental and adult alcohol exposure on Alzheimers-related phenotypes, Congressman Cohen made the following statement: “These investments from our National Institutes of Health will advance of knowledge and potentially save lives.
