Tonko Blasts Trump for Turning his Back on Ukraine, Democracy & American Values

AMSTERDAM, NY — Congressman Paul D. Tonko (NY-20), released the following statement today calling out President Donald Trump for abandoning Ukraine after talks between him and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dissolved. “President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine are fighting for their freedom and for their lives, but President Trump has chosen to turn his back on our ally in favor of cozying up to President Putin, the dictator who started this bloody three-year war. The display put on by the President and Vice President Vance in the Oval Office today was embarrassing, disrespectful, and unbecoming of their offices. This conflict will not be solved by insulting our allies and bowing down to Russian aggression. “President Zelenskyy came to Washington this morning in the hopes of further cementing the longstanding alliance between Ukraine and the United States in the face of Russian aggression. This farce of a meeting is a betrayal of not only our ally, but of American values that will resonate for decades to come.”
