June 9, 2025 Press Release SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Congresswoman Betty McCollum, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, issued the following statement on Sunday in response to President Trump’s decision to activate the California National Guard in defiance of Governor Gavin Newsom: “President Trump is deliberately escalating the situation in Los Angeles by calling up the National Guard without a request from Governor Newsom. This decision is downright dangerous.
