Ricketts Comments on Meeting With Venezuela President-Elect González: “This is a Battle of Freedom Versus Tyranny in Our Hemisphere”

January 9, 2025 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE), a senior member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, issued the following statement after meeting with Venezuela’s President-elect Edmundo González. “ Venezuelans overwhelmingly chose Edmundo González their next President. But Dictator Nicolas Maduro stole yet another election result. This is a battle of freedom versus tyranny in our hemisphere. The Venezuelan people must be allowed to safely protest tomorrow’s illegitimate inauguration. The United States must support their efforts to restore democracy in their country .”
