WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) celebrated the announcement of a $375 million investment by the Department of Commerce to support GlobalFoundries’ (GF) new quantum foundry, Quantum Technology Solutions. This federal funding was made possible by the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act , which Sen. Welch helped pass as a member of the House of Representatives. “GlobalFoundries is a global leader in state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing. GlobalFoundries’ chips, made in Essex Junction, power our phones, the 5G network, and soon will advance the next generation of quantum technologies,” said Senator Welch . “This new $375 million investment, funded by the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act , will help launch Quantum Technology Solutions, continue GlobalFoundries’ longstanding work with the U.S. government, and create jobs right here in Vermont. I welcome this funding announcement and look forward to seeing all that Quantum Technology Solutions will accomplish in Vermont.” ###
