Vindman Votes to Keep Communities Safe from Violent Domestic Abusers

WASHINGTON – Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) released the following statement after voting to advance legislation that would require illegal immigrants who are convicted of or admit to violent crimes of domestic abuse be deported for their reprehensible, proven breach of law and order. “Anyone who commits the most heinous violent crimes against their partner must be held accountable, and I have lived this ideal when prosecuting these offenses,” said Vindman. “I will always advocate for policy that keeps our communities safe. While I voted for this bill, I acknowledge that it’s imperfect and should be implemented wisely. Once convicted, violent criminals should pay for their actions and face deportation. And yet, our immigration system remains broken and requires comprehensive reform. This piece of legislation is like eating a steak with a butter knife – it’s not going to get us very far. I’m ready to negotiate for real reform when Republicans are.” ###
