Senator César J. Blanco Appointed to Senate Select Committee on
Disaster Preparedness and Flooding
Austin, Texas- In response to the devastating and deadly flooding in Kerrville and the Hill
Country, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has created the Senate Select Committee on Disaster
Preparedness and Flooding to review the state’s emergency response systems and recommend
critical improvements. Senator César J. Blanco has been appointed to serve on the committee.
The committee will begin its work during the special legislative session starting Monday, July
21. Senator Blanco’s appointment reflects his ongoing commitment to ensuring that rural,
border, and underserved communities are represented in statewide disaster planning and recovery
efforts.
Senator César J. Blanco issued the following statement:
“My heart is with the families in Kerrville and across the Hill Country who are mourning loved
ones after this devastating flood. This tragedy has shaken our state and reminded us how urgently
we must act to strengthen disaster preparedness and response.
“I’m thankful to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick for appointing me to this key committee. Our job now
is to take action: improving early warning systems, strengthening local emergency coordination,
and investing in infrastructure that saves lives. We must act swiftly and thoughtfully to make sure
tragedies like this do not happen again.”
