RELEASE: Gottheimer Statement on Trump’s New Tariffs Against Canada and Mexico

<p><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C. —&nbsp;</strong>Today, March 4, 2025, U.S Congressman Josh Gottheimer released the following statement on President Trump’s 25% blanket tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico:&nbsp;</p>

<p>“From the beginning, I have been laser-focused on making life more affordable for Jersey families. The President’s new tariffs on our trading partners, Canada and Mexico, do the exact opposite. They will drive up costs for Jersey families on everything — from groceries to gas and energy. That’s a direct hit to Jersey pocketbooks.</p>

<p>The President’s tariffs are just a new tax on families — an insane attack on affordability that’s already sending the economy reeling. It’s time for the President to stop focusing on absurd policies that screw over Jersey families and start working on a real plan to make life more affordable.”</p>
