VIDEO: Van Hollen Response to Trump Strikes on Iran: Donald Trump & JD Vance Lied to the American People

Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.)released the following video in response to Trump’s strikes on Iran:

“Do you remember all the times that Donald Trump and JD Vance looked the American people in the eye and said they would not drag America into a war – especially one in the Middle East? They lied. They lied directly to the American people.
“Because today, Donald Trump launched a war of choice against Iran. Putting American forces in danger. Putting more Americans at risk. Already, civilians, innocent civilians, have been killed, including schoolchildren.
“So what's the Trump plan? To use military force against every regime in the world that we don't like? And remember, this is the same President who tore up the agreement that had been reached to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
“This does not advance America's interests around the world. It will not make us safer. It will make the world a more dangerous place for America. It may advance the political ambitions of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, but it doesn't serve the American people. It will also cost us billions of dollars, and more, in lost credibility around the world.
“Now, a lot of people are talking about the need for the President to put forward his thinking. We already know that Donald Trump simply wanted to take this strike in coordination with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
“It is a gross violation of the Constitution because only the Congress has the power to declare war. It's also a gross violation of international law just to go off and strike another country, however awful the government of that country may be.
“So Donald Trump and JD Vance lied to us. They lied through their teeth. And now we must do everything we can to reverse this decision. The Senate and the House should come back immediately to pass the War Powers Resolution to stop it.”
