Joyce Votes To Keep Government Open, Avoid Harmful Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026. This bill provides continued levels of funding for federal agencies and prevents a government shutdown through November 21, 2025, while longer-term negotiations continue.

“The continuing resolution (CR) passed by the House today is a necessary step to keep the government open and continue the appropriations process. While this is not an ideal situation, I could not in good conscience allow a costly government shutdown that would leave our servicemembers without pay, delay benefits for veterans and seniors, and disrupt critical federal services that millions of Americans rely on every day.”

“As Chairman of the House Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee, I remain committed to working with my colleagues to pass all twelve individual appropriations bills to responsibly fund the federal government. I supported this CR to allow more time for these bills, which have already been marked up and passed out of committee, to be negotiated and finalized. While this measure provides temporary relief, it is essential that we complete the appropriations process and restore fiscal responsibility.”
