President Trump has made his position clear: no additional legislation should move forward until the SAVE America Act is passed and sent to his desk.

The House has already acted, but the bill now sits in the Senate where it has been stalled for weeks. The Senate should exercise its constitutional duties and enforce proper Senate procedure in using the standing filibuster to get this bill across the finish line. Unlike the modern practice of the filibuster, where bills are simply thrown out if they cannot reach 60 votes, the standing filibuster requires Senators who oppose the piece of legislation to actually hold up the passage of the bill with debate on the Senate floor.

At a time when American men and women are deployed overseas defending our nation, the least Washington can do is properly carry out debate and the will of the American people to enforce Voter ID across the country.

Until then, House leadership should refuse to take up any bills sent over from the Senate.

This past week, I had the distinct honor and privilege of celebrating the 100th Birthday of Abraham Suarez of Victoria, Texas. Suarez, born March 16, 1926, in Tynan, Texas, answered the call to serve our nation shortly after turning 18 during World War II. He served in the Army Air Corps in Okinawa, helping supply U.S. forces and earning the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

After the war, he continued serving until 1949, including time in Germany, Victoria, and Matagorda Island. Along the way, he met his wife, Josephine, at a Victoria movie theater, and together they raised ten children. Today, his legacy lives on through 31 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and more than 30 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Suarez’s century of life, service, and dedication reflects the enduring spirit of the Coastal Bend. His incredible contributions to his nation, his community, and his family are now officially stamped in the Congressional Record of the United States Congress.

Happy 100th Birthday, Abraham!

The 2026 Congressional Art Competition is now open for high school students across the Coastal Bend! This event encourages young artists to showcase their talents, and there is no set theme. Students may submit artwork on any subject of their choice.

The deadline to submit is April 2nd, and entries can be dropped off at our district offices in Victoria and Corpus Christi before that date. Four winners will be selected.

Students should enter the competition in the district where they reside, not where they attend school, and artwork must be an original creation of a single student.

For more information on rules, eligibility, and submission requirements, please visit our Congressional Art Competition webpage. This is a unique opportunity for students to gain recognition for their creativity and to represent the best of the Texas spirit!
