Thompson Releases Statement on Lebanon WAR Powers Resolution

June 4, 2026 Press Release Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) released the following statement after voting “No” on H.Con.Res 84. “We must put an end to forever wars. I stand with the Lebanese people, the government of Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces in their efforts to live peacefully and defeat the terrorist organization Hezbollah, and I stand firmly against any attempt to involve the United States in a war in Lebanon or anywhere else. “That’s why I joined my Democratic colleagues and party leadership in voting ‘no’ on today’s resolution as it contains provisions that would harm—not help—our peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon. I support an alternate War Powers Resolution, H.Con.Res 108, which fixes the issues with today’s resolution and would help stop Americans from becoming engaged in hostilities in Lebanon.” ### Congressman Mike Thompson is proud to represent California’s 4th Congressional District, which includes all or part of Lake, Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo Counties. He is a senior member of the House Committee on Ways and Means. Rep. Thompson is Chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. He is also Co-Chair of the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Wine Caucus and a member of the fiscally-responsible Blue Dog Coalition. Issues : Defense
