Tokuda’s Statement on Federal Government Shutdown Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda (HI-02) released the following statement after Republicans, who control the White House and Congress, refused to work with Democrats to keep the federal government open. “Today, hardworking people across the nation are facing the damaging effects of Republican-led chaos and dysfunction. While House Democrats have worked nonstop to prevent a government shutdown, Republicans have chosen political games over responsible governance, refusing even to show up for work this week. As a result, federal workers will lose their pay, healthcare services will be disrupted, and families will suffer delays in basic services. The immediate reality is that something must be done to address rising healthcare costs and Trump’s unchecked influence over federal spending, both of which continue to destabilize the lives and livelihoods of Hawaii residents. That’s why Democrats will keep fighting to bring Republicans back to the negotiating table to lower costs for working-class Americans and protect the most vulnerable in our communities. As the shutdown continues, my office will remain fully operational as I believe my constituents deserve answers and support, especially now. In the meantime, I remain focused on reopening government as soon as possible and getting back to delivering for the people of Hawaii.” ### Print Email Share Tweet Previous Article Next Article About Services Media Contact Privacy Policy Facebook Logo Twitter Logo BlueSky Logo Youtube Logo Instagram Logo
