NEWS: Senators Blunt Rochester, Booker Lead Resolution Recognizing World Menopause Awareness Month
U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) introduced a resolution recognizing October 2026 as World Menopause Awareness Month. The onset of menopause can be life-changing, with standard symptoms lasting over seven years, even longer for Black and Hispanic women. Yet, each year, women from all backgrounds begin menopause with little guidance on what to expect, and report having limited access to strategies to help ease the transition. The World Menopause Awareness Month Resolution seeks to increase awareness of the menopausal experience and expand access to care during and after menopause. Below is an excerpt of the resolution: “Each year, women in the United States enter the menopausal transition with little guidance on what to expect before, during, and after their reproductive years…As many as 40 percent of menopausal women say their symptoms interfered with their work performance or productivity weekly, and nearly 1 in 5 have left or considered leaving the workforce because of their symptoms. “[This resolution] expresses support for the recognition of October 2026, as “World Menopause Awareness Month,” recognizes the impact of menopause on women at individual and societal levels, as well as on the health and economic development of the United States… [and] supports women having access to appropriate health information and services to promote healthy aging and a high quality of life before, during, and after menopause.” The full bill text of the resolution can be found HERE .
