Larson Votes Against Trump-House Republican Budget Scheme to Cut Medicaid and SNAP

Image February 25, 2025 Press Release Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after House Republicans pushed through their budget plan to cut taxes for the wealthy while slashing health care and food assistance for kids, seniors, and veterans. “After pledging no cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security, Donald Trump is going back on his word so he can deliver a $2 trillion tax cut for the wealthy,” said Larson. “Despite the pleas of their constituents, House Republicans are moving in lockstep with Trump and Musk to pave the way for these tax cuts by slashing health care and food assistance for millions of Americans. I am proud that every House Democrat stood united with the working people of this country against their extreme budget plan – the largest cut to Medicaid and SNAP in our nation’s history. We will continue to fight back on behalf of the American people and the benefits they rely on to make ends meet.” The Trump-House Republican budget would: Deliver a $2 trillion tax cut for the wealthy and large corporations, an average annual tax cut of $314,266 for the richest 0.1% of Americans Threaten Husky coverage for 135,355 CT-01 residents through Medicaid, including 48,894 children and 15,861 seniors Reduce or eliminate SNAP nutrition benefits for 40,993 CT-01 residents Hike health care premiums by $1,550/year for 24,000 CT-01 residents who are enrolled through the Access Health CT exchange Issues : Congressman Larson's Committees Health Care Standing Up to Trump and ‘DOGE’ Tax Policy
