Rep. Bera Meets with Members of Japanese Diet Delegation, Reaffirms Commitment to U.S.-Japan Alliance

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, U.S.
Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) ,
Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the
Pacific and Co-Chair of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, released a statement
following his meeting with members of a Japanese Diet delegation visiting the
United States.
Representative Bera met with
Hirofumi Takinami, Kazuhiro Miyamoto, and Daichi Suzuki, members of the TY
Group (Taiwan Friendship Group) in Japan’s House of Councillors. Bera discussed
support for Taiwan and opportunities for Congress and the Japanese Diet to work
together with the legislatures of allies and partners to promote peace and
stability throughout the Indo-Pacific.

members of the Japanese Diet to discuss how we can continue strengthening the
alliance between our two nations,” said Representative Bera. “There
remains strong bipartisan support in Congress for maintaining peace and
stability across the Indo-Pacific and supporting our democratic partner Taiwan.
Congress and the Japanese Diet have an important role to play in strengthening
cooperation at the legislative level to help deter conflict, uphold the
rules-based international order, and preserve a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
