COLUMBUS—Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) has been appointed to serve as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the remainder of the 136th General Assembly, by
Senate President Rob McColley
(R-Napoleon).
The previous chairman, former State Senator Nathan Manning, was appointed by Governor DeWine to the 9th District Court of Appeals on August 3rd, 2026. He resigned from his Senate seat shortly after receiving the appointment.
“I am honored that the president has chosen me to chair this committee,” said Senator Gavarone. “I’ve enjoyed working with Nathan Manning over the years and look forward to continuing his good work as chair of Judiciary.”
The Senate Judiciary Committee is currently hearing 65 pending bills, from both the House of Representatives and the Senate, including:
HB 88
: Regards drug trafficking, human trafficking, and fentanyl
HB 565
: Enact the Grand Jury Privacy and Protection Act
SB 131
: Clarify compensatory damages for damaged vehicles
SB 370
: Enhance penalties for offenses against a person with a disability
“As a current member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I am excited to oversee one of the busiest committees in the legislature,” said Senator Gavarone. “I will bring a balanced viewpoint to the issues currently being heard, and will work with stakeholders, citizens and legislators, to ensure every bill we pass moves Ohio forward as the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
President McColley announced the appointment of Senator Gavarone as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee on August 31st, 2026.
