ICYMI: Shaheen Secures More than $46 Million for 20 New Hampshire Projects in Bipartisan Government Funding Bills Signed into Law

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH),Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies (Ag-FDA) Subcommittee and a senior member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, secured $46,631,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) for New Hampshire projects in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Ag-FDA and Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) Appropriations bills that were signed into law last week. The 20 different projects include investments to support the New Hampshire National Guard, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, first responders, infrastructure and much more.
“For small states like New Hampshire, the Congressionally Directed Spending process levels the playing field and ensures that Granite Staters get their fair share of federal resources,”said Senator Shaheen.“These are real dollars that will go directly to projects that will help communities in our state get ahead whether it be increasing access to substance use disorder treatment, improving critical infrastructure, opening a new early education center or bolstering emergency services at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.”

This funding will allow the NH Air National Guard to construct a new small arms range on base to replace the existing 69-year old range. The current range is undersized to meet mobilization and sustainment and small arms requirements. The current building also does not comply with current range safety and building codes.

Lakota Hanger Addition and Environmental Upgrade
The aging Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) still utilizes Aircraft Fire Fighting Foam (AFFF) that contains PFAS. Additionally, the New Hampshire National Guard lacks hangar space for its newly acquired Lakota helicopters. This funding will provide the NH Army National Guard with additional hangar space for their two new Lakota helicopters and the removal, disposal and replacement of its existing AFFF-based fire suppression system.
