Update on ACA Health Care Premiums

<p>Yesterday, the Senate voted on a bill that would have prevented premiums from skyrocketing for South Carolinians who receive health coverage through the Affordable Care Act. All Democrats voted for the bill. <a href="https://apnews.com/article/health-care-vote-affordable-care-act-obamacare-6ffc1ea9f878c6b3da995589ef8a012c?taid=693b0bf105d5820001df1fb5&amp;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter" rel="noopener external noreferrer" target="_blank">All but four Republicans voted against it.</a></p><p>Meanwhile, the Republican Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5642438-house-gop-health-care-vote-subsidies/" rel="noopener external noreferrer" target="_blank">refuses to even have a vote</a> on a similar bill.</p><p>In a matter of a few weeks, <a href="https://www.kff.org/affordable-care-act/state-indicator/marketplace-plan-selections-by-financial-assistance-status-2/?currentTimeframe=0&amp;selectedRows=%7B%22states%22:%7B%22south-carolina%22:%7B%7D%7D%7D&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D" rel="noopener external noreferrer" target="_blank">over 600,000 South Carolinians</a> who are enrolled in an ACA plan and receive subsidies will see their <a href="https://www.kff.org/affordable-care-act/aca-marketplace-premium-payments-would-more-than-double-on-average-next-year-if-enhanced-premium-tax-credits-expire/" rel="noopener external noreferrer" target="_blank">premiums on average double</a> starting next year.</p><p>For a family of four earning $66,000 a year, that will mean annual premiums will increase by <a href="https://americanscovered.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/202511_KAC_1P_Enhanced_Tax_Credit_State_South-Carolina-1.pdf" rel="noopener external noreferrer" target="_blank">$3025 for a silver plan.</a></p><p>For a 35-year-old couple owning a small business and earning $80,000 a year, that will mean a <a href="https://calculator.americanscovered.org/?_gl=1*2tj02k*_ga*MTczODQ1MjU1Ni4xNzU5ODUyOTEy*_ga_3K15RZDBJV*czE3NjU0OTAxNDUkbzE0JGcxJHQxNzY1NDkwMTU3JGo0OCRsMCRoMA..*_ga_9N25DK2W2P*czE3NjU0OTAxNDUkbzE0JGcxJHQxNzY1NDkwMTU3JGo0OCRsMCRoMA.." rel="noopener external noreferrer" target="_blank">$1603 increase next year.</a></p> </div>
