Krishnamoorthi, Garcia, Frost Demand Census Bureau Rescind Sham Noncitizen Voting Report

September 4, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Robert Garcia (D-CA), and Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee Ranking Member Maxwell Frost (D-FL) today demanded that the U.S. Census Bureau immediately rescind a deeply flawed, defective, and politically motivated report on noncitizen voting in the 2020 election. The lawmakers also demanded answers about who was involved in producing the report, how it was developed, what outside individuals or organizations participated in the effort, and what federal resources were used. “Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, and no deeply flawed, politically motivated Census Bureau report can rewrite that fact. The Census Bureau should be producing rigorous, nonpartisan data, not spending taxpayer resources to prop up Trump’s election lies. Our letter demands that the Bureau rescind this report and provide answers about who was behind it and how it was produced,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi. “Donald Trump is a loser and a liar who is misusing government resources to cover up the fact that he lost the 2020 election. In the process, he is politicizing and undermining the credibility of the Census, with serious consequences for our country. We need to find out how Trump’s allies were involved in this and what federal funds were wasted on this worthless report,” said Ranking Member Garcia. “The Census Bureau is supposed to give the American people reliable information, not help Donald Trump relitigate an election he lost six years ago. Using taxpayer resources to produce a report that serves a political agenda is unacceptable. The Bureau should withdraw this report and be transparent about who commissioned it, who worked on it, and how it was produced,” said Ranking Member Frost. In their letter to George M. Cook, Deputy Under Secretary of the U.S. Census Bureau, Krishnamoorthi, Garcia, and Frost raised concerns about the Bureau’s publication of Noncitizen Voting in the 2020 Election, A Beginning Analysis , including questions about the report’s methodology, the individuals involved in producing it, and the use of federal resources. The lawmakers wrote: “The mere publication of the Beginning Analysis in service of Trump’s big lie threatens to undermine trust in the independence and credibility of the Bureau. The Bureau has been historically regarded as a public institution that employs rigor and integrity in each of its statistical quality standards and operations. As stated by former Census Bureau Director Rob Santos, ‘[t]he scientific reputation of the Bureau has been beyond reproach. And as long as that document sits on the Census Bureau's website, that's no longer the case.’ To one policy expert, ‘[t]his is the weakest methodology description I’ve ever seen in a Census Bureau publication.’ Despite clear indicators that the Beginning Analysis lacks thoroughness and integrity, Trump falsely claimed that this initial review proved he ‘WON THE ELECTION’ in 2020 another attempt to further instigate Trump’s embarrassing hyper fixation on the 2020 presidential election.” Krishnamoorthi, Garcia, and Frost are demanding that the Census Bureau rescind the report and provide documents and information concerning its production, including the individuals involved, the data and methodology used, communications with outside organizations, the legal authorities relied upon, and the federal funding used to produce the analysis.
