Congressman Baumgartner’s Statement on the Dell’s $250 Contribution into Childhood Investment Accounts

Congressman Baumgartner’s Statement on the Dell’s $250 Contribution into Childhood Investment Accounts October 19, 2026 | Press Releases WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) released a statement on Michael and Susan Dell’s $250 contributions to Childhood Investments Accounts. Congress created these accounts in 2025 and they began receiving the Dell’s charitable deposits on Friday, October 9. Also known as “Trump Accounts,” Congress designed these tax-advantaged investment accounts to help families build long-term savings for children. “I want parents to know what’s available to their children and how these accounts work,” said Congressman Baumgartner. “The Dell family’s generous contribution is separate from other funds that may be deposited into a Childhood Investment Account, including federal contributions for eligible newborns. I encourage families to check their child’s account and learn more about the options available to them by accessing official websites.” More than 70 million children under 18 were enrolled in these new accounts, which can receive contributions from the federal government, family members, employers, and other contributors. But parents need to claim the accounts first . Michael and Susan Dell committed $6.25 billion (non-taxpayer dollars) to provide $250 contributions to 25 million eligible children born between 2016 and 2024 . The contributions were distributed based on zip code median family income, beginning with the lowest-income zip codes and expanding until 25 million eligible children were reached. All eligible children living on military bases, including Fairchild Airforce Base, were also included. “Childhood Investment Accounts give families an opportunity to begin building financial resources from an early age,” said Congressman Baumgartner . “I was proud to vote for these accounts in Congress because they give working families another tool to save for their children’s future. By combining an initial federal contribution for eligible children with the ability to receive additional investments over time, we can help families build long-term savings and give children a stronger financial foundation.” “My staff estimates that the the Dell family’s $250 contribution is available to eligible children in roughly 86% of zip codes fully or partially within Washington’s 5th District, offering over 75,000 of Eastern Washington kids a head start on college, technical training, opening a business or other investments for the future,” he continued. Parents should visit the official U.S. Government Website to learn more about their child’s account, and verify at “Invest America” to see if their zip code qualifies for the Dell family’s $250 contribution. Additional Background: Section 70204 of the Working Family Tax Cut Act created Childhood Investment Accounts, also known as “Trump Accounts”; The Dell contribution is separate from other potential funds, including the federal contribution for eligible newborns and contributions from family members, employers, or other philanthropic sources; Families can check eligibility and claim their child’s automatically generated account through the official portal at TrumpAccounts.gov or on the IRS website , where they can also validate whether the $250 contribution or other funds have been deposited; Investments have the potential to grow over time through compounded returns. Savings can help provide a foundation for future financial goals; Accounts introduce children to the benefits of long-term saving and investing.
