10/31/25clarke Issues Statement on Tragic Flood-related Death in NEW York’s 9TH District

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 31, 2025 MEDIA CONTACT: e: jessica.myers@mail.house.gov c: 202.913.0126 BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke issued the following statement: “I am devastated to learn the flooding brought upon by yesterday’s torrential downpour led to the passing of two New Yorkers, one of whom was a friend to myself and so many of our neighbors across East Flatbush. My prayers are with his loved ones in this difficult moment, and I share in their grief for having to say goodbye to a good man far before his time. My staff and I have remained in close communication with Council Member Rita Joseph, city leaders, and local elected officials since we learned of this terrible news, and we will provide updates as we receive them. “Preventable tragedies within our city cannot just be painful reminders of where it has failed – they must be our motivation to never again allow the same disasters to occur. As the climate crisis’ impacts grow more severe and more frequent, it is overwhelmingly clear that New York City’s infrastructure projects must center climate resiliency above all else. This new climate normal will only continue to cause hardship and heartache for New Yorkers, and we have a responsibility to do everything within our power to address it, to mitigate it, and in time, to overcome it.” ###
