Cortez Masto Fights for Americans’ Energy COST Relief

Washington, D.C. –Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) introduced theLowering Home Energy CostsActto help everyday Americans lower their energy costs by putting money back into their pockets if they make their homes more energy efficient. This legislation would do so by restoring tax credits repealed in H.R. 1 to pay for billionaire tax cuts.
“The Republican tax bill has continued to be disastrous for homeowners across Nevada and across the country,”said Senator Cortez Masto. “Republicans took money that Americans could use to save long-term on their electricity bills and gave it to their billionaire buddies – that’s unacceptable. Homeowners deserve the choice and opportunity to make their homes more energy efficient and lower their power bills for good.”
This past summer, Congressional Republicans repealed three home energy tax credits, which helped homeowners and homebuilders who made homes more energy efficient, and set them expire by the middle of 2026. Tens of thousands of Nevadans have used these credits to lower their energy costs.TheLowering Home Energy Costs Actwould reinstate the following home energy tax credits and extend them until 2032:

In 2023, 17,140 Nevadans claimed the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit and nearly 27,000 Nevadans claimed the Residential Clean Energy Credit – a higher rate than any other state. Thousands of new homes in Nevada had energy efficiencies paid for by the New Energy Efficient Home Credit since it was expanded by Democrats in 2022.
