Rep. Subramanyam Announced $1.5 Million Federal Funding for Oak Hill

October 6, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) announced an award of $1.5 million in federal grants for the mansion and outbuildings of the fifth President of the United States, James Monroe. Oak Hill, located in Loudoun County, has been preserved for hundreds of years and provides the local community and visitors access to American history and educational programming. Earlier this year, the Virginia General Assembly approved Governor Spanberger’s budget amendment to designated Oak Hill as a State Park. That amendment was championed by Senator Russet Perry and Delegate John McAuliff. “Oak Hill is an important part of our history and has survived hundreds of years. This funding will ensure it can continue to live on for generations. I am proud that federal funding will help maintain and preserve this historical landmark. I look forward to seeing people of all ages in our community and across the world visit Oak Hill for many years to come,” said Congressman Suhas Subramanayam. “For more than two years, we fought in Richmond to make Oak Hill a state park and protect more than 1,200 acres of Loudoun County and President Monroe’s historic home. We got it done, and now the work is making sure Oak Hill has what it needs to thrive for the long term. This $1.5 million in federal funding will help us do that, and I’m grateful to Congressman Subramanyam for securing these resources and being a partner in Oak Hill’s future. I’m looking forward to continuing this work and getting Oak Hill State Park open to the public,” said Senator Russet Perry. "Oak Hill will be an enormous investment in the quality of life and conservation of Western Loudoun by opening up over 1,200 acres of farm and forestland for recreational use. The new funding secured by Congressman Subramanyam and State budget language provided by Gov. Spanberger ensures this land and history will be treasured by generations to come," said Delegate John McAuliff. “Oak Hill stands as a powerful reminder of our nation’s founding story, and these grants ensure that story will be preserved for generations to come. We’re grateful to Rep. Subramanyam and our federal partners at the National Park Service for recognizing what this site means – not just to Loudoun County, but to the story of our nation as we mark 250 years of independence,” said Heather Richards, Mid-Atlantic Vice President, The Conservation Fund . Of the $1.5 million in grants for preservation and restoration, $750k from Save America’s Treasures and $750k from Semiquincentennial grants.
