Congresswoman Escobar Signs Discharge Petition to Ban Members of Congress from Owning and Trading Stocks

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) released the following statement after signing onto Discharge Petition No. 11 . This would force a vote on the House floor for the Restore Trust in Congress Act , a bill to ban stock trading and ownership by Members of Congress and their family members: "It’s long past time to ban congressional stock trading. I’m proud to be a cosponsor of HR 396 and to have signed on to the bipartisan discharge petition in the House. This is a commonsense reform that increases transparency, fights corruption and helps ensure Congress works for the people we serve — and never for ourselves. "I've never traded stocks and as long as I'm in public office, I never will. It is my hope that the discharge petition gains more support from my colleagues so we can pass this bill and send it to the Senate.
