Meeting face-to-face with Ohioans
Dear friends and neighbors, Over the past two weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with Ohio’s farmers, energy producers, foster care advocates, restaurant workers, and more to hear what’s important to them and how we can keep our state moving forward. I’m an Ohio guy—and every chance I get to be back home, meeting directly with the people who make Ohio strong, is my favorite part of serving as your U.S. Senator. Helping Ohio workers keep more of what they earn I met with restaurant employees and representatives from the Ohio Restaurant & Hospitality Alliance in Brunswick to talk about how the Working Families Tax Cuts Act is making a positive difference in their lives. Most importantly I was able to hear from two Ohioans who are seeing the direct benefits of this law. A pizza delivery driver who was able to pay off his car with the extra $1,000 he saved and a young server who was able to pay off her college tuition: both from provisions of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. No tax on tips and overtime means more money stays in the pockets of hardworking Ohioans. These workers are the backbone of our economy, and it was great to hear directly from them about their priorities and how we can continue supporting their success. Powering Ohio and America Ohio is leading the way in powering America’s energy future. In Zanesville, I joined oil and gas leaders to discuss how we can strengthen domestic energy production, lower costs, and reduce reliance on foreign sources. Each of these leaders are focused on expanding supply and cutting unnecessary red tape—and I’ll continue working to advance policies that do exactly that. From Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to NASA Glenn and the 104 public-use airports across our state, Ohio is also the birthplace—and future—of aviation. In Columbus, I met with the Ohio Aviation Association to discuss how we can continue supporting growth and innovation in this critical industry. Supporting children in foster care At The Village Network in Mt. Vernon, I saw firsthand the incredible work being done to support Ohio’s children in foster care. I spent the first two months of my life in foster care before being adopted by my parents, and I want every child to have what I was given—a safe and loving home. With that, I am working on initiatives to raise awareness about adoption, protect expectant mothers and potential adoptive families, and make it easier for foster kids to find their future homes. The Working Families Tax Cuts Act also supports Ohio families and vulnerable children by making the adoption tax credit partially refundable up to $5,000. Backing the farmers who feed America Ohio farmers export over $5 billion in agriculture products a year, playing a critical role in our state and national economy. At Majors Farms in Monroe, I had the opportunity to listen to farmers who shared the challenges they’re facing and the opportunities ahead. Ohio’s farmers grow what America needs to put food on our tables and fuel our communities. That’s why I was proud to support policies that help farmers invest in their operations, expand their businesses, and keep this vital industry strong for generations to come.
