Huizenga Announces $1.6 Million in New Mental Health Funding for Kalamazoo, Ottawa, and Van Buren Counties

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) announced that Ottawa County, Van Buren County, and Western Michigan University will receive new grant funding through the Department of Health and Human Services to strengthen mental health services and support substance abuse recovery. These federal grant funds are a direct result of legislation supported by Congressman Huizenga. “Connecting children, parents, and families across Southwest Michigan with mental health resources creates positive outcomes, strengthens our community, and makes Southwest Michigan an even better place to call home,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “I am committed to ensuring that those facing mental health and substance use challenges—some of life’s hardest struggles—have access to the best possible care, support, and resources.” Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo is being awarded a $599,999 grant for their Family Trauma Assessment of Children and Caregivers work Ottawa County Community Mental Health in Holland is being awarded a $616,685 grant for mental health & substance abuse services. Van Buren County Circuit Court in Paw Paw is being awarded a $399,999 grant for mental health and substance abuse treatment expansion and enhancement.
