Landsman Statement on the Government Shutdown

Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) released the following statement on the federal government shutdown:

President Trump shut down the government because he refused to work with Democrats.

We’re here in D.C., working to get a bipartisan deal done that keeps the federal government running responsibly, protects healthcare, and lowers costs.

Healthcare subsidies that keep 22 million Americans, including 30,000 in my district insured, are about to expire at the end of the year. Families are starting to receive letters now telling them their healthcare costs are about to go up.

Extending these healthcare subsidies is critical, otherwise costs will rise, or millions will lose their coverage entirely.

This shutdown was totally avoidable. Trump needs to step up and get a deal done.
