Baldwin Slams Trump’s Denial of FEMA Disaster Assistance for Wisconsin Communities Impacted by August Storms

Baldwin supports Governor Evers’ appeal to ensure Wisconsin communities receive support to rebuild and address $26.5 million in disaster costs
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released a statement following the Trump Administration’s decision to deny federal assistance for Door, Grant, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties after catastrophic storms and flooding in August caused more than $26.5 million in damages to public infrastructure.
“By denying federal assistance, the Trump Administration is leaving Wisconsin communities to fend for themselves,”said Senator Baldwin.“No community can pick up these pieces alone, and Wisconsinites need support so they can rebuild and be on the road to recovery. I hope my Republican colleagues will join me in calling on the Trump Administration to step up to the plate and be here for Wisconsin communities left in the lurch. I fully support Governor Evers' appeal for the Trump Administration to reconsider their decision and prioritize our local communities.”
President Trump and FEMAdeniedGovernor Evers’ request for Public Assistance to help support emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities in Door, Grant, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties. APublic Assistancedeclaration would give state, local and tribal governments access to grants to help cover their costs for debris removal, life-saving emergency protective measures, and restoring public infrastructure.
Senator Baldwin pushed the Trump Administration to act and get Wisconsin the federal resources communities need to recover. Sheled a bipartisan group of colleaguescalling on the Trump Administration and FEMA to support Wisconsin’s request to assist in conducting a formal federal preliminary damage assessment. Baldwin also joined the entire Wisconsin delegation in requesting an expedited Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment and requesting the President issue a Major Disaster Declaration to unlock federal assistance for recovery efforts in Wisconsin.
