U.S. Senator Katie Britt Celebrates the Unanimous Vote to Advance Lulu’s Law to the House Floor

WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) applauded the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce for unanimously advancingLulu’s Law, bipartisan legislation named in honor of 16-year-old Lulu Gribbin who endured a nearly fatal shark attack in June of 2024. The bill would direct the Federal Communication Commission to issue an order providing that shark attacks are events for which wireless emergency alerts (WEAs) may be transmitted.
“I could not be more honored to lead this legislation, and I am thrilled to see it advance to the House floor. This commonsense bill will protect the lives of beachgoers across our country and honor the courage and resilience of Lulu Gribbin,”said Senator Britt. “Ahead of the summer months, I encourage the House to prioritize passing Lulu’s Law and send it straight to President Trump’s desk.”
Specifically,Lulu’s Lawwould empower authorized local, state, tribal, and federal government authorities to quickly deploy warnings via mobile phone alert messages to the public if a shark has attacked someone in the area.
Last July, Senator Britt spearheadedunanimous Senate passageofLulu’s Law.Rep. Gary Palmer (AL-06) introduced the House version of the bill and as a committee member, led its passage in the Committee of Energy and Commerce. The bill will move to the House floor for a final vote before heading to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.
