Senator César J. Blanco Appointed to
Senate Select Committee on Religious Liberty
Austin, Texas- Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has announced the creation of the Senate Select
Committee on Religious Liberty to examine policies and issues related to the protection of
religious freedom in Texas. Senator César J. Blanco has been appointed to serve on the
committee.
The committee will study how state law and policy can uphold the rights guaranteed under the
First Amendment while ensuring that Texans of all faiths, and those with no religious
affiliation, are treated fairly and equally under the law.
Senator César J. Blanco issued the following statement:
“I’m grateful to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick for the opportunity to serve on this committee. Religious
liberty is a fundamental right protected by the First Amendment and remains a cornerstone of our
democracy.
As a Navy veteran, I took an oath to defend the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. That includes
the right of every Texan, regardless of faith or belief, to practice freely, without interference and
without having another set of beliefs imposed on them.
My focus will be on upholding the Constitution and ensuring religious liberty is protected equally
for all. We have a responsibility to approach this work with fairness, respect, and a clear
commitment to the rights of every Texan.”
