Senator César J. Blanco Votes to Create New Water Supplies to
Improve Water Security
Austin, Texas – Today, the Texas Senate approved Senate Bill 7 and Senate Joint Resolution 66,
joint-authored by Senator Blanco. The bill and resolution would provide $1 billion in dedicated funds
every year to expand Texas’ water supply, strengthen infrastructure, and secure Texas’ water future.
Senator Blanco issued the following statement:
"From the tap water that keeps our families healthy and hydrated to the water tanks that feed our
crops, water is the lifeblood of our community. Yet, many communities in West Texas still struggle
with access to clean water and continue to face drought conditions.
“SB 7 and SJR 66 will invest $1 billion in the Texas Water Fund and the New Water Supply for
Texas Fund to improve water security for our region. This funding will help upgrade aging water
infrastructure, repair leaking pipes, and create new water supplies, especially in rural communities.
West Texans know the challenges of drought and water scarcity firsthand, and understand the need
for bold action to secure our water future.
“I’m proud to support this investment to ensure that families, farmers, and businesses in Far West
Texas have the water resources they need for generations to come.”
