Congresswoman Luz Rivas’s Statement on Resignations of Congressman Eric Swalwell and Congressman Tony Gonzales
April 14, 2026 Press Release LOS ANGELES — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) released the following statement after Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA-14) and Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-TX-23) announced their resignations from the House of Representatives: “Yesterday, Congressman Eric Swalwell and Congressman Tony Gonzales announced their resignations from the House of Representatives. Both Congressmen faced allegations that are deeply disturbing and must be taken seriously. I commend the bravery of those who came forward to share their stories. I will continue to stand with them. The victims deserve justice. “These men – along with anyone who engages in sexually predatory or abusive behavior inside and outside of the workplace – must be held accountable. As an institution of Congress, we must uphold the integrity and confidence our constituencies have placed in us. The people of California’s 14th Congressional district and Texas’s 23rd Congressional district deserve to have full representation and confidence in who represents them in Congress. “Congressmen Swalwell and Gonzales’s resignations should not absolve them from accountability or halt the course of justice. Therefore, it is my hope that the House Ethics Committee continues its investigations into both Congressmen – even after their resignations – and publicly releases its investigative report, as appropriate.” ###
