CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — U.S. Representative Michael Cloud says long-term solutions are underway to address the ongoing water crisis in Corpus Christi.

Rep. Cloud said he will meet with city leaders and federal officials on Monday to discuss short- and long-term water supply options, including groundwater sources and plans for a desalination facility.

“The big thing that we’re working on is really the long-term solution,” said Rep. Cloud. “We’ll have a pinch here over the next couple of years, but we’re committed to fulfilling the water needs for decades to come. Everything seems to be moving forward, and we’re optimistic about the direction we’re heading.”

Cloud emphasized that while short-term measures are being explored, President Trump made a commitment to the city during his recent visit to Corpus Christi to get it done, noting there are still many steps along the way.

Cloud said from the federal perspective, officials are addressing Corpus Christi’s short-term water needs with groundwater and other sources, while planning for a long-term solution with a desalination facility.

“From the federal perspective, we’re focused on building a long-term desalination facility and a national center of excellence for water technologies, making this region a leader in water use,” said Cloud.

In addition to water concerns, Cloud addressed potential impacts of federal funding delays on TSA and ICE staffing, which could affect travelers this summer.

“It’s really beginning to affect vacationers and business travel,” he said. “This ongoing choke point is a result of political gamesmanship, not safety concerns, and it’s disappointing it continues.”

Cloud also commented on international conflicts affecting gas prices and U.S. policy abroad. “Our armed forces are acting with a clear objective to dismantle threats from Iran and other regions,” he said. “We continue to monitor the situation closely, and the work of our men and women in uniform is remarkable.”
