Miller-Meeks: Washington Waste Is Failing Iowa Families

April 20, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a newly released video, Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks is calling out widespread waste, fraud, and abuse in government and stressing the need for stronger accountability to protect Iowa taxpayers. Miller-Meeks pointed to well-documented failures in states like Minnesota, Illinois, and California, where weak oversight has led to significant misuse of taxpayer dollars. “Fraud, waste, and abuse in our government are out of control, and hardworking Iowans are paying the price,” said Miller-Meeks . “Washington has tolerated billions in misuse of taxpayer dollars for far too long, and the American people are losing trust in a system that is supposed to serve them. Programs meant to help those in need are too often riddled with loopholes and mismanagement, and that has to change. We need stronger safeguards, better oversight, and a renewed focus on making sure taxpayer dollars go where they are intended. That means protecting programs like Social Security and Medicare for those who rely on them, while rooting out abuse and restoring accountability across the board. Every dollar wasted in Washington is a dollar taken from a family trying to get ahead, and I will continue working to make sure government is accountable to the people it serves.” Miller-Meeks has supported efforts to strengthen safeguards, close loopholes, and ensure taxpayer-funded benefits are reserved for those legally eligible, while also backing reforms to increase transparency and accountability in Congress. ###
