Rep. Omar’s Statement on Removing Cuba from State Sponsor of Terror List

January 14, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON—Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released the following statement on the Biden Administration lifting Cubas state sponsor of terror designation: “I welcome the Biden administration's steps to remove Cuba from the state sponsor of terrorism list – a long overdue action that will help normalize relations with our neighbor. During my visit to Cuba last February, I met with family members of those unjustly imprisoned, and I'm encouraged that Cuban authorities have agreed to release these individuals. "This is a step toward ending decades of failed policy that has only hurt Cuban families and strained diplomatic ties. Removing this designation will help the people of Cuba and create new opportunities for trade and cooperation between our nations.
