Larson: Connecticut Supreme Court Decision is a Win for Democracy

January 13, 2026 Press Release Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the Connecticut Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Amadasun v. Armstrong that South Windsor Councilman-elect Harrison Amadasun’s case can go to trial. Following his election to the South Windsor Town Council, officials blocked him from being rightfully seated on the Council by illegally citing a revision to the Town Charter that is not due to go into effect until 2027, instead seating a Republican candidate who received almost 1,000 fewer votes than Amadasun. “Today's decision at the Connecticut Supreme Court was not only a win for Councilman-elect Harrison Amadasun, but it was also a win for democracy,” said Larson. “In November, South Windsor voters elected Harrison on the same ballot that they approved a charter revision – clearly intended to take effect in 2027. As President Trump continues to ignore the Constitution and undermine our democratic values, Republican officials at all levels of government have been emboldened to undermine election results, even right here in our communities. We will not stand by as they try to subvert the will of the voters. I commend Harrison and all the South Windsor residents who have come together for democracy, and I am confident they will prevail when this case goes to trial.” Prior to today’s ruling, Rep. Larson submitted public testimony in support of Councilman-elect Harrison Amadasun’s bid to be seated as the rightful winner at the South Windsor Town Council meeting on January 5 th .
