Senator César J. Blanco Passes Bill to Strengthen
Water Security in Presidio County
Austin, Texas – Today, the Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 3044, authored by Senator César J.
Blanco, to protect water access in Presidio County.
Senate Bill 3044 gives the cities of Marfa and Presidio a seat at the table when it comes to
managing their groundwater. It expands the board of the Presidio County Underground Water
Conservation District and gives the district the authority it needs to issue permits and protect
local water supplies.
Senator Blanco issued the following statement:
“Water is life in West Texas, and families in Marfa and Presidio deserve a voice in decisions that
impact their drinking water.
“This bill puts local communities in charge of protecting their groundwater for future
generations, giving them the tools to manage a scarce resource in a changing climate and
growing region.”
The bill now heads to the Texas House for consideration.
