Leger Fernández Advances $4.5 Million for Eastern New Mexico Projects, Building on $458 Million Already Secured for the Region
SANTA FE, NM — Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03) announced that $4,516,436 in federal funding for five critical projects in Eastern New Mexico has passed the House Appropriations Committee as part of the Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations process. The funding would help expand mental health care for children in Clovis, improve drinking water infrastructure in Hagerman and Texico, strengthen public safety in Hobbs, and renovate a community health clinic in Roswell. The investments build on more than $458 million in federal funding Leger Fernández has already secured for Eastern New Mexico since taking office, supporting water infrastructure, health care, public safety, broadband expansion, and other critical community needs. The two projects advancing through the House Appropriations Committee are: $1.5 million for Horizon Behavioral Health Center in Clovis to help build a juvenile crisis stabilization and treatment facility serving Eastern New Mexico. $746,868 for Hagerman to connect an unused high-yield well to the town’s water system and improve access to clean, reliable water. $772,700 for the Hobbs Police Department to support de-escalation training and body-worn cameras. $746,868 for Texico to replace aging waterlines, reduce leaks, and improve water pressure and reliability. $750,000 for La Casa de Buena Salud to renovate its Roswell South Clinic, which provides primary care, behavioral health, and telehealth services. “Mayors in my district often talk about how their smaller communities are sometimes forgotten - I’ll always remember them. Our rural communities are essential to who we are as a State and I am glad I’m able to support clean water infrastructure for both Hagerman and Texico. La Casa de Buena Salud and the Town of Clovis are showing us how we can build quality health care and juvenile behavioral health centers close to where people live. Finally, when police officers are trained to de-escalate, everyone is safer,” said Congresswoman Leger Fernández. “I've already brought home $458 million for Eastern New Mexico, and I'm not stopping there. Now, we're one step closer to delivering another $4.5 million to make sure our families have reliable drinking water, our children can get mental health treatment close to home, and our communities have the resources they need to thrive. Rural communities should never be left behind, and I'll keep fighting to bring these investments home.” Building on $458 Million Delivered for Eastern New Mexico $452,840,000 for the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System, a major regional infrastructure project to deliver a reliable water supply to communities across Eastern New Mexico. $1,200,000 for a waste transfer facility in Portales. $963,000 to support child trauma survivors in Roswell. $959,752 for wastewater treatment improvements in Lovington. $600,000 for health care services in Clovis and Portales. $500,000 for street improvements in Portales. $369,750 for senior center improvements in Lovington. $267,000 for police training in Curry County. $250,000 for broadband expansion in Curry County. These investments have helped strengthen essential infrastructure, expand access to health care, improve public safety, and support communities throughout Eastern New Mexico. The additional $4.5 million for Eastern New Mexico was included in the House Appropriations Committee's Fiscal Year 2027 funding bills. This is a major step for these projects, but before becoming law, the legislation must pass the full House, reach agreement with the Senate, and be signed by the President.
