đ¸ No Work, No Pay
Itâs day six of the government shutdown â and weâre just over a week away from our servicemembers missing a paycheck. The problem : When Washington shuts down, nearly every federal employee is either furloughed or required to work without pay. That includes Iowaâs servicemembers â like the 1,800 currently deployed to the Middle East â who are protecting our country without a paycheck. Thatâs not right. If our troops arenât getting paid, Congress shouldnât either. Thatâs why I asked the Chief Administrative Officer of the House to withhold my paycheck until the government reopens. I wonât take a cent until Iowaâs essential federal workers, including our servicemembers, get what theyâve earned. Bottom Line: If Washington canât do its job, Members of Congress shouldnât get paid. Iâll keep fighting to reopen the government, restore pay for essential workers, and bring Iowa commonsense back to D.C.
