Mike Flood (NE-01) and Adrian Smith (NE-03) in sending a letter to President Donald Trump supporting Gov. Jim Pillen’s request for a major disaster declaration following severe storms and flooding in Nebraska from Sept. 30 through Oct. 6, 2026. The requested declaration would apply to Douglas, Fillmore, Lancaster, Saline, Sarpy, Saunders, Seward, and Thayer counties. Copy of transmitted letter here and text below: Dear Mr. President: We write in support of Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen’s requests for a major disaster declaration and hazard mitigation. These requests follow heavy rain and severe flooding in Douglas, Fillmore, Lancaster, Saline, Sarpy, Saunders, Seward, and Thayer counties, during the period of Sept. 30, 2026, through Oct. 6, 2026. Severe flash flooding caused widespread damage in Nebraska, and record one-day rainfall was recorded at the Lincoln Airport. These storms also left numerous people displaced after their homes were deemed unlivable. Total damage estimates now exceed $15 million. We are confident that Nebraskans will once again meet the challenges ahead with strength and determination. We urge the federal government to work alongside the state to help affected communities rebuild and ensure assistance reaches those who need it. We stand ready and willing to assist in any way possible to ensure prompt evaluation of this request. Please do not hesitate to contact our offices with any questions. ###
