From directly engaging with the Federal Aviation Administration to introducing legislation banning non-essential helicopters from operating in our region, we’re tackling this issue head-on and are committed to putting the safety of our community first.” “The senseless, tragic loss of six lives on the Hudson River three months ago demonstrated the persistent safety concerns surrounding non-essential helicopters in Hudson County. I am continuing to work closely with Congressman Rob Menendez and State Senator Raj Mukherji to find a solution to this vitally important issue,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy . “As partners in government, we have been in open dialogue with all parties as we strive to reduce non-essential helicopter flights in our airspace, and prioritize the well-being and quality of life for residents of all 12 municipalities within Hudson County.” The crash of the air tourism helicopter on April 10, 2025, which took the lives of six people, is the latest in a years-long history of crashes and safety incidents caused by non-essential helicopters in the New York Metropolitan Area. In May, Menendez and Members of Congress from New Jersey and New York introduced legislation banning all non-essential helicopter traffic in the area. Menendez also led two letters urging the DOT and FAA to examine the safety of the airspace and calling for the immediate grounding of all non-essential helicopter traffic in our region. Congressman Menendez has proudly represented New Jersey’s Eighth Congressional District since 2023. He is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
