Senator Kim’s Statement on the Need to Resume Funding for the Gateway Project
JERSEY CITY, NJ –Today, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) released the following statement in response to the announcement that workers will beforced to stop construction on the Gateway Project starting February 6thdue tolack of funds. This comes after the Trump Administration halted roughly $12 billion in federal funding that had been previously allocated to ensure completion of this project by 2035, bringing upgraded transit infrastructure and thousands of jobs to New Jersey.
“We can’t afford to let funding for Gateway lapse. It wouldn’t just mean lost jobs in New Jersey, it would be a massive hit to our economy nationally. This isn’t a political issue in New Jersey; Democrats and Republicans want to restart this funding. It’s time to protect American jobs, keep our economy moving forward, and restart this funding.”
