Senator César J. Blanco Announces $194.3 Million for Pecos East
Relief Route in 2026 Unified Transportation Program
Austin, Texas- Today, Senator César J. Blanco announced that the Texas Transportation
Commission has approved the 2026 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), the state’s 10-year
infrastructure plan. As part of this cycle, $194.3 million in Category 12 – Strategic Priority
Funds has been awarded for Phase 1 of the Pecos East Relief Route in the Town of Pecos City.
In total, the district is projected to receive $4 billion in funding.
Senator Blanco issued the following statement:
“Today’s announcement is a major win for the Town of Pecos City and Reeves County. With
$194.3 million dedicated to the Pecos East Relief Route, we are advancing a top priority for
West Texas communities. This long-overdue bypass will divert heavy truck traffic from
downtown Pecos, enhancing public safety, preserving local infrastructure, and supporting long-
term economic growth in the region.
This investment is also a powerful signal of the state’s commitment to rural mobility and
infrastructure needs in Texas’s leading energy-producing region. I’m grateful to the Texas
Transportation Commission for recognizing the unique challenges our rural communities face
every day on our roads and for making this critical project a priority. I also want to thank the
local leaders and officials who worked with us to move this project forward.
But our work isn’t done. We must continue to advocate in the next UTP cycle to see this project
through to completion. I encourage the Pecos community to stay engaged with the TTC and local
transportation meetings to keep advancing safety, mobility, and economic growth in our region.”
