The resolution calls for banning all federal elected officials and their immediate family members from receiving any compensation or fee from any federal acquisition, sale, or transfer of a stake in a private company. It also calls for prohibiting such individuals from being sold or given any such stake the government has acquired. This comes after multiple documented reports that the federal government has used billions in taxpayer dollars to acquire equity stakes in firms directly tied to the Trump family, as well as other high-ranking Cabinet members and officials. Since January 2025, federal agencies have announced more than 35 transactions to acquire equity in private companies, representing more than $27 billion in taxpayer funds. “As hardworking Americans are struggling to keep food on the table, pay for gas, and afford health care, Donald Trump, his family, and other senior administration officials have continued to enrich themselves with Americans’ hard-earned money,” said Senator Rosen. “I have introduced this resolution to make it clear that taxpayer-funded investments need to benefit Americans, not just a select few.” Senator Rosen has continued to fight against the misuse of taxpayer dollars. This year, she introduced a bill to ban Trump and his Cabinet members from using federal funds for self-promoting ads. Senator Rosen’s bipartisan No CORRUPTION Act , which was signed into law, closed a loophole that allowed former members of Congress to continue receiving taxpayer-funded pensions after being convicted of felonies.
